We at Autumn Care Hospice agree with the National Hospice Organization’s definition of the purpose of Hospice which is to provide support and care for people in the final phase of a terminal disease so that they can live as fully and comfortably as possible.
We believe Hospice affirms life and regards dying as a normal process and Hospice neither hastens nor postpones death. We also believe that through personalized services and a caring community, patients can attain the necessary preparation for a death that is satisfactory to them. We believe death is a natural part of and necessary closure to life as we know it. It is our philosophy that dying persons have the potential to learn, teach, console, enjoy, plan, and laugh during this period of living.
Individuals, by right, have the option of becoming informed about their disease, treatment, prognosis, and alternatives available to them. Patients should be the primary participants in the decision-making process. They have the right to accept or refuse treatment and should be supported in their choice. We acknowledge the special role of the family, as they are as affected by the patient’s illness and impending death as the patient. They are the ones left behind and, therefore, need to feel peace and calm if possible during this very difficult time.
